The Little Prince book review

the_little_prince_by_rinian-d5xkuu4Many times, when we stumble upon greatness unknown to us, the greatness usually (and very effectively) blows our minds. I came across this greatness called ‘THE LITTLE PRINCE’ by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry the day before yesterday. I had received this book as an assignment. And,though I already (kinda, sorta) had heard of this book before, I didn’t have the slightest clue to how awesome it would be. Considering I have an insatiable desire for reading, and this book only being a little over a hundred pages long (126 I think), I finished reading this book in a span of three hours.

This story is about a pilot, who never really understood grown-ups (although being a grown-up himself). The pilot’s ambition (when he was a child) was to be a painter, but, the adults always misjudged his drawing of a boa constrictor swallowing an elephant as a hat. When he tried to explain the actual drawing, he was always discouraged from drawing, as it was considered an ‘impractical’ hobby. Thus, the narrator never drew again. So, he instead devoted himself to geometry, history, arithmetic and grammar. One day, his plane crashed in the Sahara desert. The narrator felt as if ‘he was more isolated than a shipwrecked sailor on a raft in the middle of the ocean.’ So, he was oddly surprised the next day when he was greeted by a little boy who referred to himself as ‘The Little Prince.’

This little boy had a peculiar habit of not answering others’ questions, but always,persistently asking his own. The story revolves around the relationship of this little prince and the narrator. The book is filled with the little prince’s experiences with grown ups and his encounters with The very important Rose and The Fox. The most accurate quotes (ever, I believe, in the history of mankind) are said by the fox. Take these quotes for example;

“The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart.” This quote is just sooooooooo accurate (forgive me for using so many o’s, but THIS quote almost was made for these many o’s) . Each of us feel a variety of emotions. And, sometimes the emotions are strong, that they almost form a cocoon of THAT particular emotion around us. These amazing feelings though, are not tangible, but they certainly do strike a chord.

And also,”You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.” This quotes speaks volumes although it’s only a short sentence. To ‘Tame’ basically means to establish ties or, to form relationships. When one forms an important relationship, there’s no going back for him. When we love somebody, we give them the power to hurt us the most too. It can be anyone really – parents, siblings,  friends, lovers. We ‘tame’ them and they ‘tame’ us.

Although this is deemed as a children’s book, it certainly does’t feel like one. I can’t believe that I have never come across this book before since this book has been translated in more than 250 languages and has sold over 140 million copies worldwide (yup, I totally wikipedia’d all this info).

Lastly, I would say that, if you want a book that will stay with you for years to come, this book is Certainly a MUST read.

Until next time. 🙂

Why Books are BETTER than movies

aAY2dpg_700b

How many times have you said,”The book was so much better than the movie.”We all have said it at least once  . Books are just almost always better than movies. This is because of the following reasons:

1)The amount of time it takes to read a book is greater than to watch a movie. Hence, we are more connected to the characters in the book because we have spent more time knowing them.

2)Books just have two limitations: a)The words written by the author describing the book’s universe and b)The reader’s imagination. But, movies are only limited to which parts the director chooses to show of the book. So, books have a WAY, WAY bigger and better universe.

3)Books improve your vocabulary to a greater extent. Not everyone is equally good in reading, writing and speaking English(or any other language). And usually, sometime or the other, we have to look up the dictionary to see what they meant. Thus, books help us to improve the way we speak.

4)Since books(novels) usually don’t have pictures, the authors need to try harder to prove a point. And, when they do, it makes a big impact on the readers. In movies, the point though already proven, doesn’t make as big of as an impact.

5)Books make the readers fall in love with the characters. They make them feel whatever a particular character feels. Movies usually don’t involve the same amount of character development as found in books.

6)Usually, the characters are not shown exactly the same way as readers imagine them to be, in movies. This usually enrages the loyal fans of the book series.

7)As movies are shorter, many aspects are either ignored or erased. Thus, the movie goers (who have and have not read the books alike)don’t feel a strong connection to the characters and the setting.

In conclusion, books are better, but movies are not so bad themselves. Until next time 🙂

First post EVER!!!

I’m Ramexa, and today while making pink pasta sauce, I thought that I should start writing .So, as I added a dash of oregano and paprika to the smooth mixture, I just couldn’t think of anything else. As I added the penne pasta to the sauce, my mind was still stuck on this idea. As I was eating the delicious dish while simultaneously watching the last two episodes of Danganronpa (which, by the way, are the most important), I couldn’t get my mind off the idea of writing. So, after a few hours of internally debating with myself, I finally decided to write a blog!! (Hurray! I guess?)

As I’ve never written a blog before, I was quite apprehensive about the idea of writing something the whole world would see (Facebook and YouTube comments don’t count as they are lost in the sea of better and funnier comments). But then, I have a lot to talk about, and putting those thoughts into written words makes more sense (don’t ya think?).

This blog is gonna be about the these following amazing topics:

1) Music (mostly rock and edm)

2)Anime (mostly recommendations, reviews and suggestions)

3) Fashion (the best form of self expression)

4)Pop culture

5)Books(mostly recommendations, reviews and suggestions again)

6)And lastly, life

(P.S, there are more areas of discussion I which will be written about, but I’m too lazy to go through my brain right now)

Anyway, until next time. 🙂
